Influenced by a diverse range of musical genres, Zee Essential crafts immersive sonic journeys, blending cinematic, dreamy, and melancholic elements of electronic music. His ultimate goal—whether in the studio or on stage—is to evoke deep emotions and touch the soul of his audience.
Zee Essential has performed at some of South Africa’s most prestigious events, sharing the stage with industry heavyweights such as Black Coffee, Vanco, Lazarusman, Ryan Murgatroyd, Lemon & Herb, and Culoe De Song. His international footprint continues to grow, having headlined shows in Kenya, Zambia, and an upcoming 2025 debut in London.
On the production front, his work has earned recognition on renowned labels. He has released music under Belgium’s Tanzgemeinschaft and achieved a major milestone with a feature on Einmusika’s celebrated Bella Mar 09 VA, curated by Einmusik. His track Time, a collaboration with Berlin-based artist Ben Haydie, gained widespread support from Nora En Pure, Julian Wassermann, Bebetta, and Mees Salomé. It was also featured as the opening track on Purified Radio – Episode 305 and included in Einmusika’s Best of 2022, mixed by Einmusik.
Showcasing his versatility, Zee Essential kicked off 2023 with Ibala, a collaboration with Bun Xapa and award-winning vocalist Toshi, released on Moojo’s Calamar Records. The track received major support from Kasango, Shimza, Caiiro, Da Capo, Lemon & Herb, Hyenah, Nitefreak, Rocco Rodamaal, and Jamiie. His follow-up single, Reset, with Ben Haydie and Amsterdam-based artist Descend, landed on Soave Records and was featured in Cornelius SA’s Anjunadeep Edition – Episode 477 mix.
In early 2024, Zee Essential continued his sonic evolution with Follow, a collaboration with Dubai-based artist Yes No Maybe, released on Tube & Berger’s Zehn Records VA – Elements 15. Later that year, he contributed to Soul Of My Soul, released on Aluku Records, with all proceeds supporting Gift of the Givers Foundation to aid children, women, and families affected by the war in Palestine.
Africa Distinct is a curated music concept founded and hosted by Zee Essential on the Belgian label and magazine Tanzgemeinschaft. This show features meticulously crafted one-hour mixes by Zee Essential, alongside exclusive guest mixes and interviews with some of Africa’s most exciting underground and electronic music artists. Notable guests have included Ralf Gum, 2lani The Warrior, Kususa, Kostakis, Jordan Arts, and a dynamic lineup of emerging talent from across the continent.
